Activities of the UNWTO/Chimelong Initiative

Five areas of work integrate the activities of the UNWTO/Chimelong initiative that aims at capitalizing on wildlife conservation as a major asset of tourism development:

  • A Media Award on Wildlife and Sustainable Tourism

With a Jury composed of UNWTO, CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora), UN Environment and Lonely Planet, the Media Award aims at:

  • Recognizing the work of journalists who cover wildlife and sustainable tourism and who raise awareness on that topic;
  • Raising awareness of initiatives tackling wildlife conservation and sustainable tourism;
  • Identifying committed media addressing wildlife conservation and sustainable tourism; and
  • Showcasing good cases of reporting on sustainable tourism and wildlife-related themes.
